Part one of the workshop will be focused mainly on handstands. The handstand can be thought of as the foundation for most acrobatic skills. In this class we will discuss how to build and improve upon your handstand practice, as well as the carryover that can have into other physical arts.
Topics covered will be:
-Physical preparation for the handstand
-Handstand alignment and limitations
-How to safely fall to reduce injury risk and increase confidence
-Taking a handstand off the wall into freestanding balance
-More advanced skills depending on the level of the group
Part two will be on tumbling and floor acrobatics. This is a very good complement to the handstand training because of its dynamic nature. Yuri can also try to vary the perspective between gymnastics and capoeira/tricking style acrobatic movements.
The styles have different benefits to offer and can add a lot of variety to someone's practice.
-Physical and mental preparation
-Specific jumping and landing technique
-How to build momentum and absorb impact
-Getting comfortable with falling
-Proper use of body tension
-Basic skills like rolls and cartwheel variation
-more advanced tricks and combinations depending on level
All levels welcome, any exercises can be scaled up or down for beginner or advanced practitioners. Also note that the above is a general guideline. The teaching style is very open, so ultimately the content of the workshop will depend on the level of the group and what they are interested in learning.
